Book In Progress

I am working on a book about my Lewis family history, and have posted the draft chapters on this web site’s Genealogy section under Lewis.

One new item is sharing family member photos.  It is purely voluntary, and gives us the chance to stay a bit more in touch.  If you would like to have a photo posted, or get in touch with someone who has posted a photo, drop me a line and I’ll do my best to assist.

Enjoy the reading, and let me know if you have any input.

Ever heard of Robert Bradford Lewis? He drew up a pedigree chart in about 1997, detailing all you have here (and more), and distributed it to many members of the descendants of Robert Ira Lewis, of whom he is one. I notice a one difference, however, between his chart and your information. Where you have Robert Lewis of Granville dying in Nov.1780, he gives 1781(no month). Where did you get your information on this? Also, you know he served as a Colonel in the Virginia militia during the Revolution, right? It’s documented.

Greetings Robert. Thank you for the catch – perhaps I mistyped Robert of Granville’s date of death. Robert Bradford Lewis is a much better genealogist than I am, and if my information differs from his, then I would put more faith in his. I am in the process of moving, and my papers are boxed up so I will have to research his date of death when I unpack.

Robert Lewis of Granville was a both a delegate to the NC Constitutional Congress, as well as a Colonel in the North Carolina militia. Robert Bradford had researched that information, which is where I first learned of it.

If you would like to have a photo posted in the family section of my web site, I’d be delighted to include it.

    Kind Regards,

    Mark Lewis

Hi Gretchen. How are you doing?

We just moved to Wellsville from New Jersey, and in the changeover of email accounts I did not get your note. I’m just seeing it now, so I apologize for the delay in responding.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy 2010.

    Kind Regards,

Hello Mark, recently learned of your site and am enjoying reading the chapters of your book. I am the daughter of William B. Lewis, granddaughter of Ellis R. Lewis, and great-g-daughter of Robert Lewis. There is our connection, as I read you are a grandson of Oliver Lewis. I met your grandfather and also Cora, when visiting Stonefort with my parents in the early 60’s. Did you know him? I have an original photo of Robert Lewis and Minerva Oshel. I will scan it and send it to you, along with some other photos of his descendants. Do you have a hard copy of Leland Lewis’ book? I have the copy that he gave to my dad, which has obituaries of our grandfathers and siblings. If you don’t have these, I can retype them for you to include in your book.
I am retired from teaching in San Diego, and now live in Half Moon Bay, CA, with my second husband, Thom Goodson, of Salem, WV.

Thank you for your affirmation of my project. The book is a work in progress, and I hope to have it published by summer 2011. The major work left to do is travel to Wales and photograph homes, churches and terrain of family history interest.

When it is published, I will announce it on the web site.

    Kind Regards,
